All I Wanted Was Cable TV & Internet Access

July 2, 2009 — Well Wanda and I got'er done yesterday. All of our things are in place or at least in the garage in our new abode. Much thanks goes to my daughter Karla and her husband Ricardo for their help.

We had cable and Internet installation scheduled for yesterday morning and the installer dutifully showed up about 10:30 a.m. What should have been about a 45 minute to one hour job turned into something in excess of three hours. The guy quickly assessed that the cable signal at the connections in the house was very weak. In tracking down the problem he discovered the problem was in the line running from the line drop to the house. He had to remove the cover on the line drop and when he did a swarm of bees exploded in his face. There were three large bee combs inside the cover. The man was stung at the top of his nose and then things got worse. He realized he needed to dig up the old cable from the drop to the house and replace it. So out came the shovel. Just so happens about half way through this dig it starts to rain. That has been a strange occurrence around here lately. Well it poured on the guy. But. he kept after it and soon the TV's were soon displaying all the...ahem...wonderful things one sees on TV now days.

Then he couldn't get the Internet to work properly. That finally traced out to a bad modem that he had put in. Once that was done he was finished. Through it all this fellow kept smiling and displayed the most positive attitude. Gee, there is lesson to be learned there and that is what really matters.

  1. It's amazing how differently service can be delivered! For example after the break-in at my house, I decided to install a security system. the folks at ADT have been mo responsive (timely) than the forensics people w/ the county sheriff's office, and their expertise is great. I feel much more secure and it was nice to deal with pleasant and very competent people
